As part of the CE/UKCA Marking process, a fabricator must have suitable welding coordination in place. This function is usually provided by a Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC). This individual must be suitably competent in welding knowledge, skill, and experience, specifically regarding the work scope and Execution Class (EXC) adopted by the fabricator.
Most fabricators do not have this expertise in house, nor do they need it. As the involvement of the RWC is only occasional, it makes economic sense to have a competent external RWC. Sandberg provides this service for numerous fabricators around the UK, Europe and North Africa.
Fees are charged on a monthly basis, spreading the cost of the service over the year. These fees include an amount of telephone and email support as well as regular visits and/or remote reviews. A report is produced after each visit as a confirmation of the RWC involvement for presentation to clients and Notified Body assessors when requested. Specific project support (this is typically something out of the ordinary), if required, is charged additionally.
There is no minimum period of involvement and the RWC agreement can be cancelled at any time.
