Bond strength testing is used to assess the bond between applied finishes, renders, plasters, insulation systems, tiles, repair materials, or other bonded layers and the underlying substrate.
The test is commonly used where there are concerns about adhesion, delamination, poor workmanship, material compatibility, or the long-term performance of an applied finish. It can also be used to investigate existing defects or to verify that newly applied materials have achieved the required bond strength.
On-site Testing
Sandberg can carry out bond strength testing on a range of materials and systems.
Testing typically involves isolating a defined test area by coring or cutting through the bonded layer, bonding a steel dolly to the surface, and then applying a controlled tensile force using calibrated equipment.
The peak load is recorded, along with the mode of failure. This helps determine whether failure occurred within the applied material, at the bond interface, or within the substrates.
