Sandberg provides thermal analysis of facades, including U-value calculations, analysis, and assessment of various building facades’ thermal performance, including overall U-value calculations and 2D and 3D finite element analysis.
This service is of particular value to building envelope contractors and architects at the early stage of a project when it is still possible to trade off different elements of the building envelope whilst still achieving compliance. This permits a more flexible specification of the building envelope, allowing substantial cost savings to be achieved in some cases.
U-value Calculations
U-values are a measure of the heat loss through the building envelope. In order to demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations, it is necessary to prove the U-values of the various components used to construct the building envelope. It is also necessary to demonstrate that thermal bridges have been properly allowed for, which frequently requires recourse to advanced computer modelling techniques. Both linear and point thermal bridges can be analysed.

U-values and thermal bridging can either be calculated by hand or simulated using finite element analysis, and both 2D and 3D thermal analyses can be undertaken. These analyses are carried out in accordance with the requirements of British and European Standards and in line with guidance published by the BRE, CWCT, GGF and CAB.
Thermal Analysis Services
Sandberg can also advise on measures to improve thermal performance and can review designs to assess their capability in reducing heat loss through the building envelope.
Summary of thermal analysis services provided:
- Facades and roofs thermal analysis
- Design review to assess the thermal performance
