ISO 3834 describes the requirements for a welding and fabrication control system aimed specifically at fabricators. Compliance with it is a mandatory requirement in a number of standards and specifications, e.g., BS EN 1090-2 and the National Structural Steelwork Specification.
From the 7th Edition of the National Structural Steelwork Specification and the Specification for Highways Works, Series 1800, it became a mandatory requirement for a fabricator to have a BS EN ISO 3834 certificate provided by a UKAS accredited body.
NOTE: Fabricators who do not hold a BS EN ISO 3834 certificate cannot comply with the National Structural Steelwork Specification (for buildings) or the Specification for Highways Works, Series 1800 (for road bridges and highway infrastructure). It is expected that rail bridge works will follow shortly.
