Originally from Worcestershire, Richard joined Sandberg in 1984 after graduating from Salford University and three years with Taylor Woodrow Construction at Heysham Nuclear Power Station.
His initial appointment was as an engineer in the Concrete Laboratory and from 1993 to 2021 he managed Sandberg Laboratories Group activities in the construction materials field. He has extensive experience in inspection and testing of building and civil engineering materials, primarily concrete, mortar and concrete-related products, but also masonry materials to UKAS accredited national and international standards. He now acts as a consultant to the Construction Materials Department.
Over the years he has developed a special interest in:
- the performance and durability of high alumina cement concrete
- the evaluation of slip resistance of flooring materials
- assessment of floor screed and floor tile bedding materials
Richard was appointed a Partner in May 2006.
Away from Sandberg, Richard has been a school governor for over 20 years, is a keen member of the Geograph Project and follows the fortunes of Kidderminster Harriers FC.
