Shear Testing of Fixings and Anchors

Shear testing is used to assess how fixings, anchors, or mounted elements perform when subjected to a sideways or lateral load. It is typically required where fixings are designed to resist horizontal forces rather than direct pull-out loads.

Shear Load Testing

Sandberg can carry out shear testing on a wide range of elements, including:

  • Mechanical and resin anchors
  • Threaded rods and bolts
  • Fixings installed into concrete, masonry, or steel
  • Channel sections and T-bolts
  • Wall-mounted stone panels
  • Brackets, plates, and support fixings
  • Load-bearing fixings in walls, floors, or slabs

Testing can be undertaken as either a proof load testing to verify installation against a specified load, or destructive testing, to determine the ultimate capacity and failure mode.

During testing, the applied load and movement of the fixing or element can be monitored and recorded using calibrated load cells and displacement gauges. This provides a clear record of performance under load, including any movement, slip, cracking, or failure.

We offer advice and rapid response with the capability to fabricate test equipment to enable load tests in virtually any situation.
