Steelwork Inspection Services

Our clients typically include Network Rail Alliances, Local Government, Consulting Design Engineers, Main Contractors and Steelwork Fabricators amongst others. Our wide field of expertise is predominantly called upon to cover bridges, buildings and offshore structures but we have recently been involved in applications as diverse as sculptures, ground anchors, busbars and cladding materials. We have been employed on new build projects, routine inspections, investigations and damage surveys, including bridge impact and fire or explosion damage.

Unlike most other inspection firms and agencies, the Sandberg Steelwork Department provides a fully integrated support service including consultancy, vendor assessment, audit/quality monitoring, inspection, testing and QA function. Additionally, the extensive range of expertise within other Sandberg departments combines to provide an unparalleled and seamless materials support service.

We undertake protective treatment failure investigations, give consultancy advice regarding welding, bolting, riveting, protective treatment and testing of existing structures, lighting column investigation and testing.

We provide on- and off-site audit, inspection and testing, fabrication and welding inspection, witnessing weld procedure and welder approval tests that can include the issuing of certification, inspection of bridge bearings and protective treatment.

Our experienced teams both in routine and post-fire/explosion/impact situations regularly undertake surveys of existing structures.

NDT

Non-destructive testing is an integral part of the steel fabrication industry.

We have a network of qualified staff to provide ultrasonic, eddy current, magnetic particle and dye penetrant testing.

Independent Third Party Inspection, Audit, Surveillance

Sandberg expertise in this field is renown and major emphasis and trust is placed in our highly respected independent third party service.

We have a network of experienced Surveyors/Inspectors and are regularly supplying a service throughout the UK and Europe. In addition, contracts further afield are often undertaken using experienced staff.

Vendor surveys and quality audits can be offered to give an assessment of the ability of fabricators to undertake steelwork projects.

Our surveyors regularly witness Welding Procedure and Welder Qualification tests and, after mechanical testing often in our own UKAS accredited laboratories, we can issue certification that is recognised throughout the industry.

Protective Treatment

Quality management and control of this item is consistently proving to be a problem for the industry. We can provide the expertise to solve related quality issues.

If problems already exist, our services can be utilised to manage failure investigations.

Our teams regularly inspect existing structures including highways bridges under the maintenance specification.

Survey of Existing Structures

Often in conjunction with other Sandberg departments, the Steelwork Team perform principal bridge and gantry inspections in addition to surveys and material assessments on fire, bomb and impact damaged structures.
