Sandberg LLP is a long-standing materials consultancy providing a testing, inspection and consultancy service, predominantly to the civil engineering industry; see this website for more details.

We are currently seeking a NDT and Welding Inspector (minimum of UT and MT with PCN/CSWIP certification or other ISO 9712 equivalent) to join our busy Steelwork Inspection Department. The role would be home based and the working area would generally be within the M25 but could occasionally be anywhere in the UK or abroad. You will require a driving licence (preferably clean) but may not have your own vehicle, although this will occasionally prove preferable.

Work will predominantly involve steel structures but will occasionally cover other aspects of steelwork. This is a permanent position and it is expected that with Sandberg support and encouragement, you will be willing and able to develop your role and abilities within the wider department.

Salary is competitive and will be based on experience, qualifications and certification. After the first full year’s employment, a twice-yearly bonus may be paid (dependent on the firm’s performance) and there is a Sandberg pension scheme.

You will be dealing with Sandberg clients and must therefore be presentable, be personable, be a good communicator and have a good command of English, both written and spoken. You will require a good level of competence in the use of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel. You should be capable of undertaking and arranging your work using your own initiative but will always have the support of Sandberg managers and senior personnel.

You must be comfortable working at height and in confined spaces. You must be capable of safely accessing all appropriate areas of a typical construction site (e.g., using ladders) and be able to identify conditions which are not safe for yourself or others. Ideally, you will already hold an appropriate CSCS card.

Essential requirements

  • PCN/CSWIP UT plate and pipe
  • PCN/CSWIP MT
  • Driving licence recognised in the UK
  • Be capable of obtaining a CSCS card (i.e., be suitably fit)

Desirable

  • PCN/CSWIP UT plate, pipe, structural ‘T’s, or nozzles, or nodes
  • PCN/CSWIP DT and ET
  • CSWIP (or PCN) Welding Inspector
  • ICorr Level 1 or higher
  • ONC/HNC/HND level qualifications
  • Hold a CSCS card
  • Have confined space certification
  • Have rope access certification
