We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Surveyor/Inspector to join our busy corrosion, protective treatment and paint inspection team based in London. The role will involve surveys of existing structures, inspection of new structures and provide assistance with failure investigations. This is a permanent position and there will be opportunities to develop the role as experience progresses.

You will be dealing with Sandberg clients and must therefore be a good communicator, presentable, personable and have a good command of English, both written and spoken. You will have a good level of competency in the use of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel.

You will have sufficient experience and knowledge of corrosion and protective treatment to bring a problem-solving approach to your work and act on your own initiative. You will also be expected to assist with the preparation of quotations, method statements and risk assessments. You will be expected to assist in the support and development of junior staff.

You must be comfortable working at height and in confined spaces. You must be capable of safely accessing all appropriate areas of a typical construction site (e.g., using ladders) and be able to identify conditions which are not safe for yourself or others. Ideally, you will already hold an appropriate CSCS card.

You will be based in our London office but will be expected to undertake occasional visits to locations elsewhere in the UK or abroad. You will have a driving licence (preferably clean) but may not have your own vehicle, although this will occasionally be an advantage.

It is expected that, with Sandberg help and encouragement, you will be willing and able to develop your role and abilities within the wider department.

Key points

  • Location - Sandberg London office based but able to travel periodically in the UK and beyond. Note that the team’s office is currently based in Grosvenor Gardens but is expected to move to Clapham in the future.

  • Essential certification and qualifications - Typical minimum of vocational level 4 in Engineering or Materials related subjects, e.g., HNC/HND, or equivalent, plus minimum iCorr Level 2 or equivalent. Be able to obtain a CSCS card.

  • Non-essential but desirable attributes - Hold Engineering Technician or higher with the Engineering Council, have CSWIP 3.0 Visual Welding Inspector or higher, have rope access capability, hold an appropriate CSCS card. Have knowledge and/or experience of structural steelwork fabrication, welding, non destructive testing, precast concrete.

  • Financial - a competitive salary will be provided and will be dependent on experience and qualifications. Sandberg covers all expenses associated with the role but not travel to and from the office. A twice-yearly discretionary bonus is paid after the first full year’s employment and there is a Sandberg pension scheme.
