ISO 3834 - Sandberg Services

The recent ISO 3834 describes the requirements for a factory control system aimed specifically at fabricators and will be a mandatory requirement for compliance with recent and imminent standards. Fabricators have limited time to get compliant and Sandberg LLP can provide valuable assistance.

Something similar has existed on the continent for a few years but now recent and future standards applicable in the UK have a mandatory requirement to work in accordance with this new standard. Therefore, due to the imminent implementation of the Construction Products Directive, fabricators who are not working in accordance with ISO 3834 may not be complaint with either standards or the law.

The latest edition of the National Structural Steelwork Specification (5th Edition) requires fabricators to work in accordance with ISO 3834, part 3. Other recent standards have similar requirements as will the imminent EN 1090 that will cover future structural steelwork in Europe. One major stumbling block for UK fabricators is the requirement to have a suitably qualified and/or experienced ‘Responsible Welding Coordinator’ to oversee technical aspects of welding.
