Condition, Maintenance & Refurbishment

Corrosion damage assessment and material sampling and testing of main structural steelwork on Forth Rail Bridge
Full materials sampling and testing of main structural steelwork on Forth Rail Bridge. Our service included corrosion damage assessments and recommendations on future protective treatments.

Prior to any major maintenance or refurbishment, or on change of ownership, a thorough condition assessment is a vital element in budgeting and planning. This function applies equally to long lasting structures such as bridges, as it does to major buildings like rail termini, and to smaller buildings, perhaps undergoing a mid-life refit.

Relevant operations are as varied as the structures themselves, requiring a resource of individuals with expertise in many different materials. Typical activities include examination of prestressing tendons, identification of undesirable materials, measurement of corrosion loss, location and examination of concealed materials and general condition appraisal with identification of all reasonably discoverable deficiencies. Our involvement can include the development of specifications for any necessary remedial works.
