Metals and Welding

Metals form a key element in almost all structures and machines and when problems are encountered failures can occur which may be catastrophic, leading to injury or even death.

Sandberg are a highly respected independent firm with experience investigating the causes of failures including areas such as fatigue, welding, corrosion and bolted connections.

Much of our experience has been gained in the civil engineering, transport, building and offshore industries covering all types of structural and stainless steel, cast iron, aluminium, brass, copper and other metals, as well as historic metals such as wrought and early cast irons. We have been involved in projects ranging from the repair of Eros through to consultation on materials for Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station and Canary Wharf.

Detailed inspections and testing are carried out in our UKAS accredited Metallurgy Laboratory with site investigations undertaken by highly trained and experienced staff.

We also offer specialist advice for fabrication problems such as those involving crane failures, bulk storage tanks and component failures.

All of our experts have considerable experience under the new Civil Procedure Rules in writing litigation reports as well as advising Counsel and, where necessary, giving expert evidence in Court.
