Over 35 years in the welding and fabrication industry covering a diverse scope of manufacture including pipe work, pressure vessels, vehicles, offshore structure, large buildings, marine vessels and bridges.

John gained practical skills as a time-served welder before going to university to study metallurgy. John then worked as a Welding Engineer at Head Wrightson before joining ESAB as a Senior Welding Engineer. Whilst there John became involved in quality systems for clients and later became quality manager for a number of companies.

Prior to joining Sandberg John was group welding and quality manager for the Severfield Rowen Group, Europe’s largest structural steelwork provider. John oversaw the implementation of ISO 9001 and ISO 3834-2 at the main fabricators within the group. John was instrumental in preparing the group for CE marking of structural steel.

John was chairman of the BCSA’s Fabrication and Welding Group and sits on a number of committees within BCSA, TWI and BSI.
